THE TRUTH ABOUT ''CARBS''
Debunking Myths And Understanding The Role Of Carbohydrates In A Healthy Diet
Hello and welcome to our latest newsletter!
In this edition, we'll be tackling one of the most controversial topics in the world of nutrition - Carbohydrates. There's so much misinformation and confusion surrounding carbs, but fear not, we're here to set the record straight.
Recently, I created a Meal plan for one of my clients who wants to lose some weight. When she got her plan and Health routine schedule, she sent a message that she thought she shouldn’t eat any Carbs during this period. This prompted me to set up a follow-up call the next day to explain this Topic to her.
You don’t need to cut out certain food classes from your Diet because you want to lose weight. Carbohydrate is a Food Class for a reason. I am glad she now understands this and not only the knowledge, she feels better than she was few months ago.
She has been able to learn Meal prepping, she also lost about 5kg via the health plan I created for her.
This is not a Client Testimonial Series, lets get straight into the Topic.
Debunking Carbs Myths
Let's start by dispelling some of the most common myths about carbohydrates:
Myth #1: Carbs are bad for you.
FACT: Carbohydrates are an essential macronutrient and a primary source of energy for our bodies. However, not all carbs are created equal. Processed and refined carbs, such as white bread and sugar, can be harmful to our health IF consumed in excess. But complex carbs, such as whole grains, fruits, and vegetables, are incredibly beneficial.
Myth #2: Low-carb diets are the best way to lose weight.
FACT: While low-carb diets may help you lose weight initially, they're not sustainable in the long term. Carbs provide energy, and when you cut them out of your diet, you'll likely feel fatigued and irritable. Plus, many low-carb diets are high in saturated fat, which can increase your risk of heart disease.
Myth #3: Carbs cause diabetes.
FACT: Diabetes is caused by a combination of genetic and lifestyle factors, not carbohydrates. However, consuming a diet high in refined carbs and sugar can increase your risk of developing type 2 diabetes.
Understanding the Role of Carbs in a Healthy Diet
Now that we've cleared up some misconceptions, let's talk about why carbs are so essential to our overall health and wellbeing.
Carbohydrates are the primary source of energy for our bodies, and without them, we'd feel tired, weak, and sluggish. Complex carbs, such as whole grains, fruits, and vegetables, also provide essential vitamins, minerals, and fiber that are vital for our health.
When choosing carbs, it's important to opt for complex carbs that are high in fiber and low in sugar. Whole grains, such as brown rice and quinoa, are excellent sources of complex carbs, as are fruits and vegetables.
Final Thoughts
Carbohydrates are an essential part of a healthy diet and provide our bodies with the energy and nutrients we need to function correctly. However, not all carbs are created equal, and it's essential to choose complex carbs that are high in fiber and low in sugar.
